Musk briefly attended the University of Pretoria in South Africa.
At the age of 18, Musk moved to Canada and acquired citizenship through his Canadian-born mother.
Two years after moving to Canada, Musk matriculated at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario.
Musk later transferred to the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned two bachelor's degrees.
At the University of Pennsylvania, Musk received a Bachelor of Arts degree in physics and a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from the Wharton School.
In 1995, Musk moved to California with the intention to attend Stanford University.
Musk's time at Stanford was short-lived as he dropped out after just two days.
Before dropping out of Stanford, in 1994, Musk held two internships in Silicon Valley: one at Pinnacle Research Institute and another at Rocket Science Games.
